Love compilation albums which are a vehicle perfect for singles-oriented genres.

So, ignoring soundtracks, multi-artist concept albums like the Hal Wilner sets and "tribute" albums I can highly recommend this lot ...

The Motown Story - this box set came out circa 1971 and was a regular Virgin retail "cut-out" item in the mid to late 70s. Covers the classic Motown era through the Psych Soul years and into the Cult-Of-Diana-Ross period with the whole thing ending up in 1970. A modest selection (by cd standards) of 60 ish tracks over five lps with the added bonus of a spoken introduction to each tune from the artist in question.
