Peter Hammill & Gary Lucas - Other World
One minute the music sounds like Never A Dull Moment, the next it sounds like The Red Crayola.Peter Hammill sounds just like .... well, just like Peter Hammill. It is not a bad record by any means but it asks an awful lot in terms of undivided attention that I am not sure the content really merits. Not when there is so much else to listen to. It may be that Hammill is a better prospect as a live performer these days than on record. There is a lot of it about and an inevitable side-effect of having access to too much music. God knows how Spotify users focus on one thing long enough for new albums to really sink in.

These two rock records did a lot more for me than the Hammill/Lucas without asking half as much

The Fierce And The Dead - Spooky Action
Warpaint - s/t

and if, like me, you don't mind spending a significant chunk of time (well, 97 minutes) sitting quietly and listening with the cd booklet open on your lap, delving into something complex and find yourself getting a commensurate reward then this record met me more than halfway ....

Sarah Walker, Paul Sperry, London Sinfonietta - Henze: Voices (1973)

as did this ....

Klangforum Wien, Sylvain Cambreling - Haas: In Vain

and this did too ....

Mike Westbrook & Kate Westbrook - The Serpent Hit
