Sound of the Suburbs

Talk Talk – Spirit of Eden. So this went on as soothing aural balm (until the rocking chorus of “Desire” of course). Nothing sounded like this in 1988. Nowadays, tenth rate ‘homages’ are quite common.

Ahh, musical education doesn't get much better than that. Shame yr old didn't get as far as "Antmusic" though, "unplug the jukebox and try another flavour" indeed. Also, I loved singing myself to sleep with "Oliver's Army" when it came out (I was 5) so just skip Weller next time. Actually I have a friend who thought (when also probably 5) that the lyric to "Eton Rifles" was "eat two trifles", so there's a kids birthday party song in there somewhere.

In fairness, I think it was "Another Girl, Another Planet" she called time on, I was just childishly adding to the many and varied potshots that Weller has had to endure throughout his career ;-) "Eat two trifles" is brilliant. "Antmusic" met with approval...
