Wasn't there something about Marinebil as well? The Swell Maps albums were reissued on CD a while back.

Ah yes, "Damaged Goods" by Gang of Four. A blast from the past indeedy. That was my favorite GoF tune for quite a while, particularly after one of my girlfriends ditched me. "Sometime's I'm thinking that I love you, but I know it's only lust." Ah, romance!!

Absolutely spot on. "Jane From Occupied Europe" is one of the strangest, most off-centred and utterly individual albums to emerge from that whole post-punk era. Closely followed by Martin Bramah's post-Fall group the Blue Orchids (whose only album, "The Greatest Hit", is tragically almost impossible to find now) and Yeah Yeah Noh, whose new "Best Of" (released last month) is post-Fall provincial English cynicism at its very best, albeit laced with a tenderness that the Fall never possessed. I hope to review it for Unsung shortly if time permits. An absolute gem. All of these groups reveal that, far from being its natural enemy, true punk was closer to psychedelia in spirit than any nostalgic retro-genre like the Paisley Underground could ever be. Vive le confusion.

Sure, Wire were brilliant as well. Just a note to say that the message I posted earlier about post-punk being the true continuation of psychedelia applies to Wire more than most, especially on the awesome "Chairs Missing". |
