I saw a part of a documentary the other night which included a narration by a researcher guy who in his youth tried to get a ring sample from a nearby tree. He had some difficulty and chopped the tree down. He took the sample back to his hotel room to count the rings. To the sad buggers horror, the tree he cut down proved to be a lot older.
