You might be right Baz - it's nearly forty years since I was on Yakushima and either my memory is playing tricks or the info I was given then was inaccurate. Meanwhile, for anyone really interested. Amazon lists several books about the Yakushima Cedars - one that looks interesting is titled Ancient Grace: Inside the Cedar Sanctuary of Yakushima Island by Hiroaki Yamashita.
