Blimey. It's all a bit judgmental here, isn't it!

I think yr right. Hell everyone's a hypocrite, no one is really consistent. Why try to keep Julian at a level he really can't meet? It's not like most people can.

I totally agree Keith. It's a non story, and he has of course honoured his refunds, and other than that the reasoning behind his motive for cancelling is entirely his own business and no one else's. It's only a gig.

I wonder if theres a kernel of truth in that. He's had ample on his plate capable of adversely affecting his decision making ....trying to finish his novel ~~~ gig purdah ~~~ finishes, hands in, gets accepted ~~~ yippee, after years I'm free!!!! I want to head of and make a noise!! Someone wants me to do gig in Ireland. Oooh, get 'stoned' too! ~~~ money from publishers! I can move! Thats it, Manor on market NOW ~~~ er.... oh fek, got to find somewhere where I can do my stuff AND keep other half happy ~~~ gawd, somebody wants The Manor ~~~ got to get somewhere sharpish ~~~ shite, that gig's a problem, all those tickets sold .... um, what can I say? dot dot dot. I haven't checked to see if Yatesbury's still on the market or is now 'stc', but in view of him going to Ireland several times before, I reckon there's more to whats been said than meets the eye. Nobody's perfect, and we've all had rushes of blood, not thought things through, made decisions and then been tripped up by consequences. The Drude is human.

You can easily see how it would upset a fan from Belfast, though, right?People who live there day-in, day-out, who are suddenly told that what's good for them just doesn't cut it for can't Cope.

Personally, I think the reason for his excuse is hooey. I cancel appointments fairly often out of fits of artistic pique, or because for whatever reason I'm just not feeling up to seeing anyone that day and putting on a sharp and entertaining front. I'll usually pluck a half-baked excuse out of the air to make myself seem a bit less of a misery-guts. A hunch tells me Cope's been through that same mental process a fair few times in his career.

I can understand why some locals may get upset, but if I was one I wouldn't give that much of a toss. It's nothing personal, and I think 'what's good for them' isn't very fair. Is it Pop Star/Rock Star ego antics, or just a personal decision perhaps badly handled ? As for the revolutionary schtick, I've never bought it into that bit anyway!

A little bit of self agrandisement, too.

That business about the stab-vest when visiting London... I just don't relate to. Nobody wants to be stabbed. I'd wear one, too - were there a real risk of being stabbed. Actually, if there were, I'd avoid going there, personally.

Is this really Julian Cope - man of the people? Perhaps he's been away from folk, a bit too much. Become a bit agoraphobic?

Anyway... I'm afraid, as much as I'd love to disagree with you, that 'free thinking revolutionary' stuff is indeed just hollow posturing to sell some records.

Good records, though.

Maybe, rather than continuing this aloof reading the forums and not contributing bollocks, it's about time he dipped in and shared a few opinions and communicated with the people who like him. We all know he does, after all.
