Save for those great, hypnotic early singles, Wilder's where JC's career really starts for me. Kilimanjaro's not a bad album, but those second-rate Forever Changes horns just get on my nerves these days. Same goes for Echo tracks like Happy Death Men- I think that's the one that inspired the Teardrops to use them, too. Thanks, Mac!

I'd agree that 'Wilder' is where it starts to get really interesting. 'Kilimanjaro' does have some pretty exemplary pop, tho.

Worth noting that it was the other way round according to Julian - the Teardrop started using horns after Balfe had a 'Forever Changes' revelation. In true Balfe style, he subsequently went off to produce the Bunnymen's debut and nicked the idea. I guess he saw it as his own idea but Julian felt like he'd led him there in the first place. Band politics eh!?!
