I think with Kiss, it depends how old you were in the mid-late 70s.

If you were already musically *mature* by then, then you'll always despise them: cynical, shallow, kitsch, third-rate etc etc.

If you were heading earnestly towards musical *maturity* (righteous self-definition), at this point in time, then Kiss might well have unfortunately bewitched you. You're cursed to carry your dirty little itch around forever.

If, like me, you were 10/11/12 years old when you first discovered them, then they were fundamentally fulfilling, in so many silly ways, and nobody should belittle that, except from ourselves, and we do, oh we do. But we refuse to apologise. (Though we will apologise for having attempted to love Animalize. And then Asylum. And then *get off wherever you got off*.)

If you were, however, wholly Elsewhere (ie musically pre-mature), then fair enough, flame this thread for all of its risible unworthiness. You're *right*.

But you're also wrong.

JC's AOTM essay on Kiss is truly excellent.
Kiss, also, are excellent, despite being despicable men. But that's rock 'n' roll, surely?
One day I'm going to make the actual film of The Elder.
Just you watch.
