Black Sheep

Fucking brilliant!

I've been living with it for a week now and with each play it just keeps revealing itself. The initial listen left me uncertain, but it is the very definition of a grower.

H2H folk will appreciate that I'm quite keen on Julian Cope and while I understand the grumbles of some of those who didn't go for the heavily guitar based work of the last few years, I always saw Julian Cope within it. The tunes and melodies were there, the keyboards and mellotrons were there, Julian Cope was there.

Black Sheep strips away the fury while retaining the rage and anger. The electric guitars aside, much of the same instrumentation is on Black Sheep as has been on You Gotta Problem With Me, Dark Orgasm and Citizen Cain'd. However, the focus has shifted and this is a glorious affirmation of what we love about Julian Cope music.

Fucking brilliant!

Yeah, I know what you're saying here Jon, only with me I didn't see julian in CC or DO, only what I figured what Julian was trying (or wanted) to be and I think that's what put me instantly off them, personally I think they're his worst albums.

I think this album is his best since Interpreter and seems to draws a lot from what influenced him on Fried too, as I said on another thread, there's a couple of songs I'm not fussed on, they may grow on me they may not, but honestly I can't remember the last album I've heard when I thought every track was a classic.

Yeah, it's good to hear his voice again. Actually it's made me go back over the tracks I liked on the previous few.
