ah yes, the junkie factor. that does have to factored in. Used to spend a bit of time off and on around Mike Ness, leader of Fullerton, California based Social Distortion (went to college in Fullerton).

He lived then in small flat downtown (round about 1983 that was), around the corner from a club we used to play at and hang out in, and on a few occasions we all would wind up round his place idly playing records or staring at the TV. Easy going guy, though he was on heroin back then, and just kind of not all the way there. They were already famous, though because he wasn't all intense or weird about it, youu just viewed him as one of the crowd. Conversely, you were aware that you weren't going to be getting any closer to him than the odd chat. One was subliminally aware also that you maybe wouldn't want to get any closer than that.

Damned gig, Devonshire Downs, Los Angeles. Perhaps 1984. I walk up to the bar to order a drink and this drunk guy with red hair yells out "ELLO LOVELY!" I look over and it's Rat Scabies drunk as hell with an ear to ear grin. Spoke for a bit, drank for a bit, he was nice as could be. Then he got up (amazingly) and showed those drums what they were there for...

brilliant.

I met (and, amazingly, jammed with) Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction/Porno for Pyros drummer): the nicest guy I have ever met. Unbelievably cool.
They Might Be Giants: Ran into them at a bar, very cool and gave me tix to one of their shows.
Chad Smith: Nice, but lied about coming back after a shower to autograph my record.
Raveonettes: Cunts.
Ian Sveonious: Nice guy with a huge ego.
These aren't my heroes, just some famous rockers I met. I've met a lot more than just these guys too. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I promote shows and business dealings bring out the worst in some of these fuckers.

A mate of mine used to work in a seaside theatre. He told me that the bloke with Orville the Duck likes to take the piss out of disabled kids!

I always thought The Manic Street Preachers would be the last band on Earth to allow their music to be used in telly commercials. Also, I believe Henry Rollins went through a phase of selling his arse to the highest bidder (didn't he endorse GAP?), which is a great shame.

Now I think about it...no.

Mind you, some war zones were safer than facing his Lordship if he'd had a frustrating day on the common.
