i saw him at the nec recently. he was great. the new album's great too. he's been a constant. most of his shit stuff has some merit and his good stuff is peerless. i've been listening to his early stuff this week - the stuff before space oddity. gets dismissed as being twee and mannered but there are several songs there as good as anything else he did - let me sleep beside you especially. that's aching for a cover by someone hip. when i live my dream, london boys, love you til tuesday... heck, the kids love the laughing gnome....

Re: Deram cd

I always loved the Images lp as a late kid and early hip teen , I bought the material as the Deram cd a couple of years back but don't seem to have played it much. Probably cos of all the other stuff I've been playing.
I really liked Karma Man and Silly Boy Blue though We Are Hungry Men is 'kin great.
Wonder if the early Velvets covers are ever going to appear? Apparently his then manager had some kind of in with the fActory crowd that meant that DB got to hear the banana lp before it was released.

tunng - mother's daughter and other songs.
a i the only one listening to this? new psyche/glitch/folk. digital music is reinvigorating folk in the same way that it did with reggae... definitely one for fans of the earlies... on the mighty static caravan label. two downloads here:
http://www.tunng.co.uk/audio.html

the tears - refugees
2 mins 54 of perfection from brett & bernard. the most significant reunion this year. you can tell they're glad to be together again. hear it:

nurse with wound - angry eeelectric finger
digging the cyclobe disc most right now. also lotufen deadhead as background static.

various - reggae protest songs (ras)
patchy compilation but with enough drop dead ace moments to make it worthwhile - luciano's eve of destruction and solidarity by black uhuru in particular (were they named after the star trek character?)

some of these grateful dead shows streaming:

kid carpet - your love
another single. real '78 rough trade vibe on this. swell maps techno.

so much good music about at the moment....

I love all the very early Bowie stuff.

Bit of trivia: John McLaughlin played guitar on one of the versions of 'In The Heat Of The Morning' !
