Don't do this often, but I've been listening to a corker this weekend, which means you lot will HATE it as I'm just soooo not Unsung!! :op Josh Rouse - Nashville. Was recommended by Johnathan Ross on Radio 2 a couple of weeks back, and he played the single 'Winter in the Hamptons' off of it. Tis lovely, just what I needed at the present time. Bit Damien Rice I suppose, but I like it!! And he played live on the programme and was pretty darn good! Despite the album name it isn't C & W!! Tanya Donnelly - Various jumble mix CD from the lovely Gnomon.. have just been told to 'shhhhh' by a work colleague for singing 'You and your sister' far too loud!! ;o) And this afternoon I shall mostly be listening toooo either Rufus Wainwright or perhaps Kristen Hersch, because I can and because I like 'em!! :o) xxxxxx

It sure is a grower. And the minimalistic Glimmer mix which strips things down and places the emphahis on the drums (and with a few added bloopy noises) make it sound almost Krautrock!

'Scary Monsters' 'Teenage Wildlife' in particular, is a great track. He certainly lost it in the immediate few years. Anyone like 'Outside' ? I think it's a cracker.

Dontcha just love 'em... I really wish someone could have filmed them at working in their western works studio in 1978/9. Perhaps there is some lost / abandoned footage yet to be foisted upon us.

I should have worn one when the The Gutter Band used to play there. They were great fun - they'd perfected the glitterstomp and a played a great version of Life On Mars which involved the guitarist fastened to a revolving wheel (knife thrower style) whilst playing a note perfect solo!!

Oh yeah... And WIRE - Scottish Play, both on cd and DVD. The version of Surgeon's Girl is superb. Seeing Colin and Graham close up yelling it out is a moment to treasure!!

Me. I thought Bowie had a pretty good 90's.

I think the problem post-Scary Monsters was in how Bowie demolished his own mystique - duets with Jagger and Tina Turner, the whole Pepsi generation caboodle. I think he's still trying to find a way back. But I also think, Scary Monsters aside, that he was losing it around Lodger, it smacks of desperation, a real self-conscious avant-garde gambit, where Heroes and Low had seemed to flow more naturally.
