I agree about the religion aspect. He'd be labelled a pure nutcase if he was white, but because he was Muslim his actions must have been terrorism. And now Islamic State have claimed he was doing it for them... yeah yeah why waste such good publicity, especially when we can't ever know if he wasn't because he's dead.


He could easily have been an ISIS recruit, though. I mentioned my neighbour here before who, despite being a sweet, promising young boy, somehow wound up in the ISIS fold after visiting some distant relatives in Pakistan, and will now likely never see his immediate family again. Terrorist is generally a word for the side with the least military might, but it does seem like even ostensibly sound, worldly individuals can very quickly be brutalised into becoming human weapons. Obviously tagging "terrorist" and "Muslim" to a news item instantly reels in more punters, and throws more coal into the war machine, but I also wouldn't be equally quick to dismiss the possibility.

Saw the footage of this for the first time just now, by the way, after intentionally steering clear of it since this happened. Really wish I could go back to being the me of five minutes ago.
