I seem to remember reading in the New Statesman circa the G8 in 2005 that a pre tax income of £10k pa puts you in the top 15% globally pro rata with adjustments for cost of living etc. So maybe your first question here should be "who isn't one of these so-called 'Rich' people"?

Easier to define Poor. How about these for starters -

Are you in any doubt as to whether you will be able to continue to regularly feed yourself and your family?

Are you in direct physical danger from one or more of the following: famine, flood, drought, war or disease?

Do you have a regular supply of clean water and sanitation?

Is full time education available to your children up to the age of 16?

Do you rely on charity to feed, clothe or house yourself?

Have any members of your immediate family died or suffered considerably from a treatable illness due to absence of health care?
