Yeah, I don't find it incomprehensible at all that a lot of stuff survived the fire- remember that a plane's fuel is back in the wings, and most of the fuselage of each plane smashed thru the tower's walls, and even some out the other side, throwing a lot of debris forward and clear of the ignition of the fuel.
