Aye, but I'm just about to leave work, and I'll probably type loads of stuff then delete most of it before posting anyway.
In brief, I'd say, Ashley's parents are in the best position to judge, but the 'thin-end-of-the-wedge' angle is very worrying. Having a kid with special needs can truly fuck your head up, and irreversible decisions are not to be made by those who aren't thinking clearly. Having been exposed to the meme that states 'cost to society' as a way of determining the best way for governemnts/health bodies to approach caregiving, I'd really not want 'The Ashley Treatment' to become something that was taken up as a widespread solution, lest the thick end of the wedge prove to be based on the concept of 'cost to society'. For that would be a Very Bad Thing in my view.
