That's a big burger

Did you know that in the US they eat more than a million animals per hour?

Just thought I'd share that little nugget with you.

That disgusts me more than I can say. I'm not vegetarian (though not big into eating meat either) and I'd never condemn anyone from eating meat - their call.

Thing that really gets me, quite apart from dubious farming practises, exploitation of workers in slaughter houses and all the rest of it is the WASTE! The tactlessness and arrogance of these people is staggering!

People are starving in Zimbabwe (although nobody will admit it) and America cheerfully deal with Mugabe and his mates, doing nothing to assist the Zimbabwean kids who haven't eaten in weeks and they're showing off on the internet about six pound bloody burgers! And Zimbabwe is just one example; ooooh it makes me so CROSS!

Mindless consumerism (not just 'lets see who can eat until they collapse in pile of their own vomit contests', also those bloody silly bints and their shoes in 'Sex and the City') is the worst aspect of life in the states IMO and I KNOW not all Americans are like that, I'm sure the majority are as disgusted by it all as I am, but there's a significant minority that can't see beyond getting/being the biggest and the best.

I shall now climb down from this soap box before I put my foot through it and get on with some work!

But, doesn't the "no-one has ever finished it", just make it all make such perfect sense?

.....and sod the suffering of the animals?

Presumably, by the same logic, you're pro-hunting with dogs?

After all, it's "their call".

:o)

So all meat eaters are total bastards that have no compassion whatsoever for animals and, by default, are all inbred fuckers who enjoy hunting with dogs?

Is every member of your family a vegan who never wears wool or leather, then? You've never come across anyone who eats chicken occasionally but still feels it's wrong to hunt with dogs?

Where do you live, a Buddhist temple in Nepal?

Thank you! Never thought being an omnivore (which we are supposed to be, whether we like meat or not) was in quite the same league as hunting, which I despise cos i was born in Croydon! Ask any pro-hunting inbred and they'll all tell you that all townies are anti-hunting cos they 'don't understand the ways of the country'. Nothing to do with the fact it's downright inhumane and anyone with half a brain can understand that! Anyway, like you say, that's a whole different argument!

I think we can agree on a couple of things here:

There are some seriously fucked up people who are part of the pro-hunting lobby. I am surrounded by them.

It is possible to be a compassionate meateater, it just takes a lot of effort (and expense) (and thought).

If meateaters all ate just a little less meat (ie not everday) the world would undoubtedly be a better place.

Yeah, and if all meat eaters could buy organic humanely reared meat it'd help too, rather than the hormone boosted crap they sell in some supermarkets (and leave to rot in the sun before they put it on the shelves).

I just don't think it's particularly realistic to expect everyone to go vegetarian, which is why I say if someone eats meat, that's their call. In an ideal world maybe we could find a way to feed and dress ourselves without involving any other animals. The fact remains, however, that the vast majority of people on this planet are too self-centred and downright fucking greedy to give a toss about each other, let alone animals, farming practises etc, hence the fact you've got people in America trying to eat 6lbs of meat at a time because they think it's clever. Wankers.
