I'm sure the first ever post-punk album I ever bought was Sulk by The Associates. Was a total accident. Meant to get some similarly named thing like The Association, or something like that (not the sunshine pop band, but some completely forgettable, anonymous goose egg of a band no doubt). Got home, played it, and aside from the sonic chaos therein, the sheer emotionality of the thing absolutely floored me. I'd never heard pain and insanity presented in such a barefaced manner before. Billy Mackenzie's helium-augmented vocals, and that swirling hypnagogia of found sounds and layered synths brought me back to it again and again. If I had to pick a single song, it would probably be Party Fears Two, but it's the whole album really.
