Moon Cat wrote: there's scores of things I'd rather listen to before him. That applies to nearly everything I listen to! I am pretty sure I could get by perfectly happily with a couple of hundred records. Everything after that is chasing after the unalloyed thrill of whatever it is that really cranks your handle to the very core (odd metaphor but stay with me) in any particular genre. Perhaps at my advanced age, and with so many distractions (not least making the Dunes and S3 records), listening to something and not being shaken to the core is starting to feel like a waste of all too valuable listening time. Also my ears are really really tired. If something isn't hitting the mark then it just has to go.

Astralcat wrote: The Clash don't do anything for me (funnily enough I'm warming more and more to punk courtesy of the current shennanigans - I heard some Damned on the airwaves - great stuff! Far better than the Sex Pistols/Clash). Imho, it's only really Brian James era Damned that's musically very punk. If you think in terms of punk as an attitude rather than a musical style then The Damned are a punk band. I tend to think of them more in terms of producing intelligent pop music ... which is quite an anarchic thing to be doing anyhow.

...well apart from the nme, they have done alright with the mainstream journos over the years.Think mojo or uncut did a feature on the live set a while back. They certainly do better than Simple Minds - although they have suddenly got a bit of cred back recently. 8)

Ah...fashion! 8^)

Of course I recognize the sociological importance of the Beatles and yadayadayada, but I simply HATE them musically speaking.

Screamo. Makes me want to punch someone out. Maybe that's the point, but I can't stand it. Polka drives me up the wall. At least, the commercial stuff does... it ALL SOUNDS THE SAME TO ME. I don't perceive any bold new directions for it happening anytime soon. Polka fans like things to be very predictable, I think.

Both Elvis (In The Ghettoas an exception) and Sinatra (Frank, not Nancy) just don't cut the mustard with me either. Have tried with both but just don't see the appeal. :o)
