I'll be watching 1972 to 1976 with a critical eye. That's my specialist subject on Mastermind. I'm slightly miffed they didn't consult me - I know, how would they know?

Really enjoyed that We Who Wait, has me thinking I need Adverts etc in my collection. Not sure why they're not already there. An oversight obviously. Looked for live stuff yesterday and found there was a live dvd on Dime of Adverts revisited backed by a group called The Valentines. So surprised they didn't mention him having done that, i'm assuming it was a tour not a one-off. Maybe it just meant the story was untidy since it was finishing on a high of him having discovered that he could tour with very small overheads if he just took an acoustic guitar. Enjoyed that pre-punk Punk Britannia too. Looking forward to the next episode. Stevo

I promoted a gig in January at the Fleece of TV Smith and the Valentines play the Adverts.. Great gig. TV has been doing this on and off for a number of years now. I've got a DVD + CD of them doing the first Adverts LP, Crossing the Red Seafrom 2007(if I remember correctly).. rather good it is too.. | |||

Incoming Traveller wrote: Elegant Chaos' remarks give me hope that this series will be good. It's great to have a doc on The Adverts and Mark P being interviewed is also a sign that it's not all the obvious suspects being wheeled out again. However, I don't believe a serious look at punk can be done without a) the big role that women have played in it, which usually gets ignored (Zillah Minx's film 'She's A Punk Rocker' goes some way to address this and b) Crass being involved. They were incredibly important and don't get enough credit, in my humble opinion. Looking forward to the series, though. Good point. Enjoyed it, though. Being a big STranglers fan, I know that they are set aside from the main Punk movement, but as a crossover band I do think a big debt is owed to them and should at least be mentioned in despatches and not wiped out in some kind of Stalinist way.

I can remember watching that and being somewhat entranced while the rest of my family were horrified! There was a Talking Heads documentary around the same time too; certainly early on in their career. It'd be interesting to see that again. :o)
