"2nd edition came in a metal box" was I alone in thinking there was something wrong with that sentence? Like they confused 2 versions of the same recordings, one of which was initially put out for foreign territories as far as I'm aware. Otherwise enjoyed quite a bit of yesterday's show. Though shame to see the state of Mark E. Smith. Nice to see the clips of Go4 on BBC shows though. As well as a couple of other things. I'm still dying to get my hands on the full tv appearances of the Associates in a working format. Were they dismissed in a couple of sentences under pop in that programme though?

I loved how much Kid Jensen was so clearly in love with his cowboy boots when introducing Magazine on TotP. Small details speaking volumes. Also I was strangely thrilled by how much Poptones played on the acoustic guitar sounded like a Steve Howe or Nancy Wilson part. That in itself shows the genuineness of the original idea of everything-going-in-the-pot. Magazine chanelling SAHB was out of the same dynamic. Speaking of which where were ATV? Bobby Gillespie was particularly good on Metal Box. Though I would say that Floyd's Animals also realised that dank ugliness of the 70s in their music. Different approaches same end result though you could argue that of the Prog and "Classic Rock" bands Floyd were probably the least technically gifted musicans. Those two records would be my choices for the Callaghan / Thatcher time capsule along with the atomic bomb shelter made of three-piece-suite cushions.

Good to see Wire actually being recognised. Nice, typical difference of opinion between the two members, too!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01jv7f2/Punk_Britannia_Postpunk_(19781981)/ I don't own a TV so I'm stuck with iplayer. The first one came with the Adverts doc and the second one had the Poli Styrene profile. Any goodies for the Post-Punk one?

Agreed. I always preferred the Liverpool scene to the Manchester one, and it seems in danger of being airbrushed out of history.
