It's very interesting though.......

Most threads started on here average say between 10-20 posts!?
Start one on KISS and (Sonic) Boom!
I think the previous thread on KISS ended up with 150 odd posts.

Love em, or hate em, you can't help but debate em.

When I first joined this forum, I was very guilty of some of the points that you mention....ie, berating people for liking certain artists, etc.
I sat myself down and basically told myself to "Stop being such a cunting cunt"
I actually go red in the fizzhog when I think about it.

So, sorry for being a knob a few years ago and I actually now own a couple of Smiths albums........

See Keith.....It can be done....80)

A couple of Smiths LP, Paradox. I'm impressed!

I remember you saying what you'd heard a track in a pub or somewhere and liked it but couldn't identify it.

I did actually search for a Kiss track that Mooncat had highlighted as being a fave to give them another chance, like I had done a year or two ago. I was going to post asking for one Kiss track I should hear, but I thought I might get a trifle overwhelmed by responses so I re-read some posts here and chose one. I can't remember the title now and this thread is so big it'd probably take me a while to find it again but I think Mooncat described it as being ludicrous glam thing or something like that. Anyway, it wasn't my cup of tea though I will say I didn't think it wasn't as bad as the other things I've heard by them! So that's kinda faint praise at least! ; )

Do you seriously consider KISS to be better than Wire or Magazine? I'm not being funny here but if so you need to take stock.
I'm not a huge Wire fan but the first couple of Wire albums were serious game changers and Wire have constantly over the years kept up a high quality output, slightly more biased on Magazine who I rate second only to The Ramones in Punk hero stakes and were the first band that took punk up the right path as opposed to that frantic crass/oi road that it became known for.
KISS have written a few good tunes and put on some spectacular live shows, so has Robbie Williams.By all means like KISS but don't make anything of them beyond being a successful pop metal band who have been treading the same boards since '78 bar the odd [in both senses of the word]career diversion.

The Red Grand Funk album is one of my favourites ever! The one before it "On Time" is pretty cool too.

Which live album did you get? Cos the one with the black and white cover is mindblowingly good, i'm really surprised if you didn't like it!

That's this one:

This one not so good:

And this one is not at all good!!!

Kinda like their Kiss Alive I & II

The first, Live Album, is when they were still the Railroad,
a classic Power trio, and before the lawsuit.
What they lack in finesse, they make up in rawness
pulling songs from the first three

Live 1971 bridges between the two main live albums
essentially augmenting Live Album with '71's
Survival and E Pluribus

Caught in The Act is a the template for double lives that would explode '76-'79.
This is after the lawsuit,
they are no longer the Railroad
they manage themselves
Craig Frost on Organ/keyboards has been added
they are musically more ambitious
essentially becoming a hard rock band
with blue eyed soul influences
no longer as raw but a gleaming US hard rock band
with an excellent run between '71 Survival and '74 Shinin On

The Alabama Shakes thing was more due to a 3 page spread in the Guardian and the headline 'Zeppelin meets Janis Joplin', why spend 3 pages on a band who have yet to find a tune and then compare them to something they fall well short of, you've listened to them, do they ring any Zeppelin/Joplin bells, can you even remember the songs, anything more than mild interest in the possibility of a new Alabama Shakes CD, I suspect not.
Maybe if the Guardian looked just a teeny bit harder they might find somebody slightly more deserving of a 3 page spread and maybe if the Alabama Shakes were left alone they might actually develop into a band worth the hype.

Thank funk for that , I thought it was me, I quite like Caught In The Act but the first one is the biz, used to play that and The Doors Absolutely live back to back loved them to bits, I made a tape up of all the spoken word bits off both LPs[probably bulked it up with Woodstock stuff -NO RAIN NO RAIN NO RAIN], used to annoy the fuck out of all my friends

Paul Stanley actually wrote this for Rod, but they decided to record it themselves.

Cracking tune.

I wasn't having a go at either you or Ian for your slagging off of AS. I actually found it quite amusing and it encouraged me to check them out. I was just making the point that other acts get slagged off apart from Kiss!
