I play Coleman quite a lot with various jazz people and often change the melody lines from trumpet to flugel or cup muted cornet to give a more 'relaxed feel' bringing the trumpet back in for the harder edged stuff. A lot of jazz is like that hence the trumpet-cornet an instrument that can be used for both depending on the player's tonal qualities.
