Slade? Really? Figures, I suppose. They certainly were more stomping than Alice or Marc.

As far as my memory of the year goes... well, it was rather a long time ago and I haven't been reading books about KISS to keep me that informed. I just remember it being coinciding with the old guard being caught off-guard. There were big stories breaking them in the tabloids of the day proclaiming this or that accompanied by big spread shots of Gene and his tongue.

I was listening to Sparks and Bob Marley while Bolan sat in the sun. Heavy Rock didn't really hit me properly until 1978.

...if nothing else, I've heard some of these songs covered (Melvins, Nirvana) and I'm curious to hear the originals

I think with Kiss, it depends how old you were in the mid-late 70s.

If you were already musically *mature* by then, then you'll always despise them: cynical, shallow, kitsch, third-rate etc etc.

Well, I was "musically mature" by then, and I must admit I didn't "get" them for some time, but I like 'em now. I suppose your theory may well be generally true though.

When you think of all the uNsuNg bands out there that Julian *could* have given the spot light to.

Also what about some of the fantastic music that some of the truly *UnSung* unsigned bands and song writers who post on this very forum, who are (in my view) creating great outsider rock n'RoLL.
Why won't Julian give these people a listen?

Kiss are not unsung! Kiss are not even interesting!.. come on Jules lets get off this cheesy trip and move on. I don't see Kiss as outsiders who took the left hand path. I see them as 70’s cartoon commercial teenage wank monsters, who nicked other peoples ideas to make shit loads of money. They are not unSung and not cool forward thinkg MofO's who changed the world of rock n' rOll.

Sorry to all you kiss fans, I do understand why people see them as good fun, but they are way too cheesy for my liking, and I was a kid in the 1970's and I remember those glam days as Chocolate brown wall paper in my mum's kitchen, while eating pot noodles and listening to remember your a WoMble on the radio. Now *thats* the 70's!

nA SORRy ...not for me thanks.

Despite enjoying a bit of Kiss, I have to agree that they aren't really Unsung as such.

Still, it is Mr Cope's forum, and if he wants to write about them, who are we to argue? It is an entertaining read as well.

I think I agree though, in that I'd prefer to see him writing about something a bit more obscure.

50+ and the man can still split opinion.

Punk's not dead.

Hooray for Julian Cope!

(As it happens, I've never been a big Kiss fan but there are moments and some of them are on this compilation).
