Hmmm... this is tricky. Goldfrapp in Wolverhampton, back in November, probably. Although, Fat Freddys Drop earlier this month in Birmingham are also a high contender... Maybe Sigur Ròs also in Wolverhampton in November. Of course, I still have Dreadzone to come. That's tomorrow night, in Shrewsbury. In fact a quick glance at the calendar reminds me that I also saw them earlier this year, in Wolverhampton - And that was brilliant! No. My best gig of 2008, for several reasons; brilliant venue, spellbinding visuals, fantastic bill, the friends I travelled with and the Village Pump friends I met there... It has to be Sisters Of Transistors supported by TRICLOPS, back in May at some old church in Chorlton, Manchester. A great evening. |

hmm, a tricky one, but the recent primal scream gig was good, as was the john martyn gig, but my 2favs sorry cant nail it to just one has to be the white hills gig in hove earlier this year, bleedin excellent, just for the intensity and sheer sonic assault of those guys, and spiritualized at the concorde 2 in brighton, jason and doggen truly inspiring that night

Cheers KC. My fave gig this year was the Sun Ra Arkestra at the Death and Dumb Institute, Manchester. 2 hour set, covering bebop to abstract, ace musicians and a very happy atmosphere. Also other great gigs: A Certain Ratio - Urbis, manchester, The Fall - manchester academy Whitehouse - jabez clegg, manchester Biting Tongues - shunt, London 2009 looks like its going to shape up nicely with the Magazine gig on the 14th Feb. 8)

in no particular order (although AC/DC were clearly the best) : NEIL YOUNG - Hammersmith Apollo (March) NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS - Birmingham Academy (May) SPIRITUALIZED - London Koko (May) VALIENT THORR - Wolverhampton Little Civic (June) NEIL YOUNG - Cork Marquee (June) TOM WAITS - Edinburgh Playhouse (July) ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO - Birmingham Hare & Hounds (August) AC/DC - Madison Square Garden (Nov) THE WILDHEARTS - Wolverhampyton Wulfrun Hall (Dec) which depresses me as no 'newer' bands have made much of an impression on me this year :-(
