For many, Guns N Roses were the last great American band.

What a terrifying thought!

Last time I put on "Appetite" it just sounded like "cocaine rock" to me. And not in a good way (like the first CSN album is at least interesting coke rock.) By which I mean, it "sounds better than it actually is".

Though in 1987 I remember it was a real breath of freshness on radio (going up against the likes of Bon Jovi and Whitesnake -- boy what times those were, eeesh!)

They sounded as old as very old boots over here in 1987.

I can understand someone who was 15 at the time liking them, but otherwise...c'mon.

I was 15 at the time and loved them.

Appetite was my breakthough album, when I realised how important music was going to be to me for the rest of my life.

And it had swearing on it.

I still put it on sometimes and still love it, but I don't know if that's due to quality or nostalgia. What I do find odd is listening now, as a musician, is being able to listen to the bass, the rhythm, the lead, the synths(!). Whereas when I was 15 it was just an amazing noise with a singer on it....

I have no expectations for CD. Apart from expecting it to be rubbish.

I do believe that was precisely what I was going to say. Except, I was 15 for a fair bit of 87. Couldn't understand why anyone would want to listen to that trite old tosh when they could be listening to Songs About Fucking.
