I'd agree with that, except the word "grunge" itself is a BS marketing term. "Alternative Rock" is even worse (a mainstream alternative to the mainstream?) "Indie Rock" is more descriptive but kind of boring (Thurston Moore once used the phrase "Indie Guitar Swing".) "Post-Hardcore" has a certain ring to it (like the American version of the UK "Post-Punk" thing of the late 70's.)

Sorry, I was just trying to guess what might have been your "raw rage radio rock of youth"! Meant no offense. ;-)

1987 a rubbish year for music? Of course every year has tons of great records. Here's a few from 1987 (Oh, and I do believe Appetite was a great record also): St Julian - Cope Tallulah - Go-Betweens Calenture - The Triffids Young Gods - Young Gods Human Jukebox - Scientists A Glint Of Silver - Silly Wizard Franks Wild Years - Tom Waits Roman Beach Party - Celibate Rifles Come On Pilgrim - Pixies But 1987 was the rare year when none of these prolific and awesome artists released any albums: The Fall, Nick Cave, Ed Kuepper, Dave Graney. Screw it, I'm going to bed.
