I know what ya mean, KC- though "Mary Poppins' is probably one of the most benign examples of what you're talking about... (a film where Nannies can fly, laughing creates antigravity, you can jump into chalk drawings, etc. surely deserves a little leeway if it plays loose with a few facts....?). It's a charming, sweet film. Listen, we've all seen movies that we've loved that stretch the facts- as most films about the American West have- I don't begrudge this kind of thing provided the film isn't trying to claim historical accuracy. Criticizing Disney for creating happy endings is sort of like criticizing beavers for building dams... it's what they do, it's built into their DNA.

Plastic Letters? Great and underrated, IMO.

You're criticising Mary Poppins for its lack of realism, Kid? Nurse!! ; )

I have laughed and cried to many posts in this thread so far, so: Queen Live Magic, and Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet. On Tape. Bought the same day and equally stretched beyond playable. Yes, i'm 32, and i feel everyone should go back and edit their posts to include their age. Oh the joy when i illegally downloaded those fuckers again. They will always be my first loves. (sorry fr cheatin with 2 choices mofo's) Dx

my parents had me later in life, they wernt into pop music, in fact my mum didnt even know it exsisted untill a boy took her to see the who on valentines day, she just sat there with her hands over her ears and eyes. We only had one pop record in our house that a boy gave my mum in the street when she was younger- please please me- the beatles, and i loved it. Even if id have begged her my parents wouldnt have bought me any records of my own so this was it for several years. Records were a grown up world, where i had to have permission and supervision. I probably looked at this record many times more than i was allowed to listen. From as far back as i can remember I loved the front cover, i learned their names and who played which instruments, i had to pick a favourite which was usually george. I just loved this record, i dont know if it was because we had nothing else (apart from mary poppins and alike) or because it was just a sweet and simple album, easy beats and lyrics for a kid to grab a hold of, i still got my mums old copy, dont play it much but i love all the songs on that album.

i still play my wombles christmas lp every christmas day, the only day i can get away with it. My fave song is "madame cholet, as sweet as cafe au lait, from the tips of your toes to the twinkling in your eye, when we come wombling home in the evening, you'll be there by the kitchen door. We'd like to say ol'e madame cholet," ahhhh wasnt she lovely.
