The Black Angels - Passover.

For me the best LP this year by quite a margin, just grew and grew.

I'll also add,

Burial - Burial.
Satyricon - Now, Diabolical.
Various Artists - Warrior Dubz.
Harvey Milk - Special Wishes.
The Heads - Under The Stress Of A Headlong Dive.
Method Man - 4:21...The Day After.

Honourable mentions to Brain Donor, OM, Tom Waits, Sahg, Rick Ross, Celtic Frost, and Kode9 and Current 93 (both of which I haven't heard but know I'm going to dig).

I'm definitely in the "2006 has been superb" camp.

Had to check a few of the frequent mentions out to see what I missed -- that Black Angels album is definitely one I'm glad I didn't miss after all! ;-)

Was also pleased to see The Onion included Scott Walker on their end of year top 25! They compared it to a Kubrick film (I was thinking David Lynch, but that works too.)

It's a tough call, but my favourite album of 2006 is '3', the previously unreleased third album [a double!] by German nutters Exmagma, recorded by Conny Plank and easily as good as 'Goldball'. Came out on CD as the first ever release this year, but recorded back in 1974 or thereabouts.
