Here's a bit of trivia about them - they were originally called Heaven 17 until the UK band disputed their ownership. Following up, Glenn Gregory said - "If we had lost we would definitely not have changed our name to Men Without Hats!"

Flock Of Seagulls were one of the 'new wave' bands metal and hard rock fans liked for some reason.

Oh you bet -- "Safety Dance" was a top 10 smash in the USA. I think the group was Canadian -- I might still have that album on tape somewhere, I think it was actually pretty good. Very minimalist compared to today's pop that's for sure. I remember another song called "Living In China" . . . The Flock of Seagulls had a huge hit with "I Ran" but nothing else by them was ever very popular. (I bet that recent VH1 reunion show will make them a lot more popular now though.) They're both classic examples of 80's "one-hit wonders" I'd say.

Where Do The Boys Go is another single by Men Without Hats that I remember though it was not a hit. Did Alphaville (not sure of the spelling) have any hits stateside. Big In Japan was the smash over here. They are mentioned in the back of The Crack In The Cosmic egg as being a German band of absolutely no interest to those into Kraut Rock. Another Alphaville song was Forever Young which kind of pre-dated the Nordic cool synth pop of Aha.

Belious Some (not sure of the spelling) was another piece of 80s synth cack but with some kind of Funk pretensions.

Brilliant Mind by Furniture. I reckon Jarvis of Pulp copped a feel of this one. The 12" also had a Barrett like song on it.

Boom Boom Room were another but I think their record failed to chart.
