Hello and SPLOOOO!
Lots this week, being a birfday musical extravaganza n' all. New things, old things and thing things.

Syd Barret - The Madcap Laughs/Barrett. Ace double cd (avec out takes n stuff) of scarred soul fried psyche folk n songsmithery. I have enjoyed finally being able to hear the stuff properly. Timeless & great. Like muchly.

Venom - In League With Satan. Somewhere between revolutionary &, stupidty, cack handed and genius - much hilarity & awe. Ace cheap double of Tynside's proto black metal mentalists. Amongst the dazzling ineptitude and full on brilliance of it all are a couple of radio inserts with the band announcing themselves on a local radio station in full Geordie accents "A'hm Cronos an wor pleh the bess like" , "A'hm Mantas n wor pleh g'tar" totally great! Top quote in the sleeve "Our music is Power Metal, Venom Metal, Black Metal, not heavy metal 'cos that's for the chicks" hahahahahahah fuck me! Awful, brilliant, fucking great and there's a track called "AAAAAAAARGH!" WoW!

Cave In - Antenna. Former hardcore mob unleash their inner prog beast. Like it. Oddly enough, sounds like the Posies doing Rush songs.

X-Press 2 - Muzikizum. Deep house and grooves from Dj super group. Funky, slick lushment

Roni Size - Touching Down. WOW! absolutely belting drum n bass odyssey. Brilliant mix of old skool phatittude and clever clever layers. Totally stormin' and a real affirmation of drum n bass NOW!
I advise you - if you like d n b this is the mutz nutz of the moment.

Apollo 440 - Dude Descending A Staircase. Underrated beats n grooves combo unleash double of top tunes & sounds. Kind of (imho unfairly) derided as some novelty big beat act (Billy Mackenzie recorded his last ever vocal on a beaut Apollo 440 ballad) , but there's lots more going on here than is given credit for. Good stuff

Nebula - To The Center. Top psych Stoner rockers early album finally found! Love this band. Think Dos EP's & Charged are better albums but this rocks and swivvles like a supadude! New album on the way.....wheee!

Nebula - Dos EP's. Totally rad dude!

Prince - Dirty Mind. The first genuinely good Prince album. Hybrid of electro funk, full on funkosity & skinny tie New Wavery. Great stuff.

KISS - Detroit Rock City & I Was Made For Lovin' You . Post piss up last night loudness from kabuki faced godz.

Amused By Genitals - Peachy Arse Fuzz ( I like your demi wave)

The Heads - Everyone Knows We Got Nowhere. Full on space rock groove beast.

Also.....some celebratory rock n dance n blibbleness of the cosmos, funking about, and general sonic ear tomfoolery.

Have nice week!

Yo!

Sounds like u had a cool birthday mr cat! get any comics? :) Anyways, my week has been this stuff:

Neil Young - On The Beach
Neil Young - After The Goldrush
Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps

Well, been in a bit of a Neil Young mood this week, not listened to him for some time. On The Beach is easily an all time classic, downbeat but inspiring. After the Goldrush, being the soppy sap that i am at times nearly always makes me nearly cry, it's so full of emotional songs which mean a lot to me. Rust Never Sleeps being a new purchase and i think it's great! I heard it a couple of years back and remember i liked it, though never got around to getting a copy, cool stuff all round!

Gang Of Four - Entertainment! Still getting used to this one, very edgey, politically themed punk which grooves, definately like this.

Camper Van Beethoven - Tusk: Ah sent to me early in the week, certainly different from the original! Needs a few more listens yet but initial impressions are good :)

Johnny Cash - At San Quentin: Woah, got from HMV sale quite cheap. Very powerful performance which sends shivers down me spine in places. "I Still Miss Someone" i find very moving!

Thurston Moore - Psychic Hearts: Still listening to it loads!

Velvet Underground - Live 1969: This one is growing more and more and sounds sooo good after a beer or two or a coupla glasses of red wine :)

Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground: Ah, needed to listen to this one again, very moving in places and generally a dam fine album!

Black Sabbath - Sabotage: Yup this rocks! Downloaded it cos my vynil copy was SUPER scratched up almost to the point where u could hardly hear the music! Sympton Of The Universe rules maaaaan!

Brian Eno - Music For Airports: Hmm, just sounds like easy listening music to me still... really cant get into it. I really like everything else i have heard, this just isnt doing anything atm! :(

Vibracathedral Orchestra - And their spines crumble.... Tape i got from their website, cosmically tuned acoustic drone grooves. Cant be bad! :)

Van Der Graaf Generator - Godbluff: Still like and listening to it now in fact. Would love to see that DVD with them performing this along with A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers. There's even some feedback at the end of one of the tracks! :)

Coil - Time Machines: Arrr good droney ambience, quite capable of losing your sence of time altogether :)

Bob Dylan Live 1966 Disc 2: Not heard this in AGES but glad i put it on again. This performance definately contains some true punk spirit.

Cujo - Adventures In Foam: Still really like this... some of the jazzy parts go on a bit, but this is some cool drum & bass.

Roni Size - New Forms: I do indeed really like this album, however, it would be better if it was a bit shorter. I just find my attention drifint to other things after a while. Despite that, it has some cool beats

Moondog - Moondog: Downloaded on the strength of Zos's coments last week. Definately ahead of it's time and a really interesting listening experience. The percussion almost sounds like the drum machine on the first Harmonia album to me!

Anyways, that's about all this week, hope you're all really bored now! :P

but it came from the 70's, it's just Boston innit ? ;) And it's not a very good Boston either...

But Boston weren't very good....

But at least the bloke in Boston could hold a note, and the guitarist built some whizzy electronics.

I've never heard 'em but I'm scared they're like the Cult-meets-Pearl Jam or something...

I remember hearing the main song off Rust Never Sleeps and being freaked out by the over-fuzzed guitars. I forgot the name of the song, but no band has ever made anything that noisy as far as I know. Not even the Swans.

Oh yeah, I did get Venom's Black Metal a month ago. Definitely quite excellent, and the Satanic message is right on!
