I hesitated to comment TE as didn't want to deflect from your stunning post; you don't often write that much but this was worth waiting for. Atmospheric and compelling. Great descriptive writing.

Thanks, June, but it's so easy to write about something that is so heartbreakingly unforgettable. The friends I was with, the things we saw, and the weather we endured together. And, mostly, the great united effort, through friendship, that saw us get through it together.

After the time we five spent camping and roughing it amongst the Lakeland mountains we all love and know so well, we all reflected on the great companionship we had enjoyed in spite of the incessant rain. We all agreed that it had been an unforgettable experience together.

Afterwards, I rcounted my individual experience to my companions in an essay, via e-mail. We called the event "Operation Bunion". Don't ask, but ther have been others, the last called "Operaion Ankle".
