Yes, I'm a mason. I carry a local tradition.

There is a simple test for these cut features but it is ridiculed on this board. And it's not infallible. It involves measuring the aperture closely and relating the simple dimensions to a hypothetical prehistoric unit of measuremnt, the Megalithic Inch. This is generally taken to be 0.814" and was first described by Thom, in his book on the stones of Brittany. An archaeologist might say you were in cloud cuckoo land to try it, even, but you can then ask them 'but would did they use as a measurement for an inch?' (Don't get into a discussion about units of weight, as it could last a long time!)
