My personal opinion is that it is due to it 'capturing' the sun and shining like a bastard!

Believe me on a very sunny day after a little rain washing Newgrange does shine out across the valley like a beacon.

Like I said I don't think anyone has really looked into the electrical side of the use of quartz. There could be something in it. As was said above, we have so much 'interference' now from radio waves and such that we do not stand a chance of realising what the ancients knew.
