How do you mean? I'll admit to (despite appearances here!) having no special attachment to the word "sacred", but I've been interested in what I'm using it to refer to most of my life.

> So how can you claim what is and is not 'valid' if you have no personal concept of 'sacred'?

It was actually Peter H who said the word had no meaning for him - I've been doing my best to express my own views on what it can mean.

Depends which sense you're talking about. In the sense of "sacred cow", it can be shared between many people (as in the literal sacred cow in India) or subjective (as in one person's idionsyncratic thing). In the sense of "set apart, special", I guess the same thing applies. In the sense of referring to a subjective experience that other words like "divine", "spiritual" can get (mostly unsatisfactorily) roped in to express, it's obviously subjective by definition - but objective in the sense that (I believe) this sort of experience is accessible to all.
