Surely it must be Marillion - Misplaced Childhood. Twee lyrics combined with a blatant attempt to rip off the early Genesis sound, complete with Fish and his pants Peter Gabriel impression. Can't remember the cover, it didn,t stay around long enough to be memorable!!

Errr, Eloy certainly produced some clunkers (I refer anybody who wants evidence to my 'Ocean' review on this very site), but I think Planets (aside from the daft concept/lyrics) is actually rather enjoyable. And Mysterious Monolith (!), the track thou doth mock, has a KILLER bassline...

I think it goes without saying that most of the stuff produced during the 'prog revival' of the early 80s is pretty wretched to listen to these days (unless you're into guilty pleasures - see Eloy)

Still, Fish tipped me off to Hammill, so, you know, there's a reason for everything

I heard that 'Betcha....' track, via a friend of mine at the time. (I couldn't bear to listen to it - sorry!)
He also said that The Enid did 'Pretty Vacant' as an encore when they played live around that time.

The Enid - now there was a bunch of clowns, absolute HORRIBLE music.

Strangely enough, you're mention of The Enid above instantly made me think of Pallas. I think I used to know one of them (rushes off to consult web...)

Yup BGO released them together a couple of months back. Meant to get that but am now looking at being extremely broke for the forseeable future.
Ohmigod.
I've got them separately anyway in the early 90s version.
