Very true, but I suspect you lose a greater truth along the way. Artists venture out into the public space and are open to criticism, read any reviews in your newspaper.
SG was defending his trade of stonewalling in his own particular manner, he gets 'grumpy' about things, and if he doesn't like something he speaks out ;)
I don't think much of Goldsworthy stuff either, for me it is statements about nature, it would be much kinder to leave natural things unadorned and not gold painted........but then of course that is me being subjective sadly.
