Tom Waits - Raindogs, Swordfishtrumbones
Ultrasound - Play for today
Weather Report - S/T
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

Carlton Melton - Pass it on. Thought I'd see if they were worth watching at Mono later on this year, and I think that they probably are

Jowe Head - From a Parallel Universe. Pretty accomplished quirky stuff reminding me of Jah Wobble (decent bass player, not the most polished of singing voices, plenty of artsy stuff going on in his songs!)

Jowe Head and the Demi Monde - Diabolical Liberties

The Crow Soundtrack - Already familiar with the likes of the cure, Jesus and mary chain and nine inch nails, but there were some good songs by the likes of Helmet, For Love not Lisa, My life with the thrill kill cult, Medicine and Jane Siberry. Have checked them all out trying to find a worthy album, but am as yet unsuccessful

Carlton Melton are more than worth watching live.

I'll have a listen though those three for sure. Thanks! I guess I tend to be surprised that his music is a lot closer to Pat Metheny than Derek Bailey. Don't really expect a post-punk artist to be so committed to beauty of traditional harmony and melody as their prime directive.

Vini Reilly is a very different album, it's chock full of samples and has a sequencer based backbone.

There's a great sample at the end of the Sporadic Recordings (an obscure late 80s compilation of tracks that never made it onto a "proper" album) recorded at some American airport, which goes something like this:

Check-in guy: What's the purpose of your visit?

Bruce Mitchell (drummer): Concerts, we're a group

Check-in guy: What kind of group are you?

Bruce (to the others): I don't know, what sort of group are we?

Vini: Avant-garde jazz classical

Blown Out - Planetary Engineering
Just got this today. Heavy and brilliant.

Cranium Pie - The Mechanisms Tapes
Got the bargain 4CD set, haven't managed to get through the 4th one yet, but BLOODY HELL! This is brilliant. Really trippy - collaged, Floydian funk, noise, spoken word bits, rock...it all flows and drifts. Love it to bits.

Cluster - Cluster II
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory
Led Zep - In Through the Out Door

Man - Maximum Darkness
Loving Man at the moment. Wasn't familiar with this before. I particularly like Bananas and the extra track version of C'Mon. Ace!

Chef Menteur - III
3 CDs of intruigingness! A riot of different styles and genres, but it works really well.

Karl Hyde on Radio 6 yesterday played 'C'mon' by Man. Part of his selection of what he listens to on tour, loads of folk & psychedelia.

I had a bit of work so typically not enough sleep. To get me about I've listened to a lot of late Nico with the Faction live. The album "Nico behind the iron curtain" being the backbone and fleshing it out with various bootlegs of live shows of the time. Ending with a fine if technically flawed rendition of "Orly Flight" which she excuses by saying "I'm not a very good piano player" in her lovely unique manner. Saw her play in smackie Brixton just before she died. She was sitting in the bar with a pint before the show chatting to anyone who cared.
