Because it wasn't given away , it was forced on people. And not for free as Apple paid U2 an undisclosed sum and apple spent $100million plus on advertising, advertising disguised as philanthropy

plus the album is shite, this is said as someone who actually quite likes U2 it really is a bland flatline of turgid bollocks that makes Coldplay seem like a good idea

It would have been something else if they'd accidentally put the David Axelrod album inside everyone's itunes folder instead.

Incidentally, transfer your shit with Ifunbox. It's way faster- you can just drag & drop.

What someone came round your house and forced the album on you... or did they just make it available for you to listen to if you wanted to...

I had a listen to a couple of the tracks I didn't particularly find it enjoyable so I left it at that.... I still don't see why people are so up in arms over it. At the end of the day it's not really that important.

Spam is spam, I don't need Viagra, a million dollars of lost U.S billion, PPI refunds, A Pizza from Fat Bobs' or the new U2 album. It's not massively important but it's mildly irritating and at least Fat Bob doesn't claim to have solved third world debt

Also, it's the thin end of the wedge.

You can rest assured that this isn't going to be a one off.

Isn't this more about it being U2 than it being "the thin end of the wedge" or "spam" I'm sure if it been the Sunn0)))/Scott album or something far cooler than U2 no one would have moaned.

At the end of the day iTunes is free software same as Twitter and Facebook. You quite happily take the software but then complain when the company that make it does something that you don't like. Simple solution don't use the software find something else.

I love the idea of Scott0))) dropping, unbidden, into millions of iTunes folders. Somewhere, in a parallel universe, this has happened, and Planet Earth is wobbling off its axis. In the meantime, I'll stick with Winamp and VUPlayer (the latter, a tasty little piece of freeware that is to audio what the venerable VLC is to video, namely, it can play/convert anything you may care to throw at it).

And I love the idea that millions of iTunes users wouldn't moan about getting a Sunn O))) album dumped on their ipods.

Maybe the masses have better musical taste than we give them credit for.

Not really , I haven't got a big axe to grind against U2's music, the fact that it's U2 & Apple sets alarm bells ringing due to prior form from both parties, the amount of fluffy waffle going on about new business paradigms and gifted but not free also grates. The fact that instead of trying to open some ears U2 have resorted to their blandest release yet which takes absolutely no risks and makes the incredible dull No Line on the Horizon suddenly seem exciting rankles as well
I would probably be more impressed if U2 & Apple had paid for & released ScottO))) and extremely dissapointed if Apple & ScottO))) had joined forces and then turned out some kind of Montague Terrace in Biege x 12 and trumpeted from the roof tops about how wonderful it all is.
I already have to tick numerous boxes to avoid Apple giving me various bits and bobs I don't want and now they're shoving unwanted albums on me, believe me if I could use an i-pod without having anything to do with i-tunes I would
