I'm trying to sort out my PC to do some music. I got a midi guitar controller, and have managed to get it to pick up sounds from my guitar, and send them to the computer, but I'm not getting any output.

I got the PC a few months ago, and it's a good quick system, but the onboard sound doesn't seem to do midi.

I tried to use my old soundblaster live platinum card/breakout box in it, but it's an old card, and doesn't appear to be compatible with windows 8.1. It does work with XP, but the software that comes with the guitar controller doesn't.

I got a soundblaster xfi extreme audio card and that does work with windows 8.1, but I can't play midi. Something to do with ASIO apparently. This particular card doesn't support it.

So can anyone recommend a soundcard that will do midi stuff on a windows 8.1 PC?
