Coil - Try Before You Buy
Mar 03, 2014, 23:50
Try before you buy...Quite a few kind hearted souls have made pretty much the entire catalogue available to listen to on youtube. Hell even the uber rare/expensive Live DVD boxset is up to watch.

Dip in, track down the ones you like. Or pick up the official downloads from Threshold House...

I'd recommend all and any of the above. Covers pretty much all the 'signature' Coil styles your likely to encounter. Proto Industrial, Through Acid House and Proggy Kosmische, to full on ambient/drone. (I've left the glitch stuff out, doesn't really do much for me, here... if you want a listen though)

It's a huge bugbear for many fans how much the back catalog of record and CD's can cost now most are officially out of print. Buyers are left at the mercy of the market, and what your willing to pay to pick up the 'definitive' article. Hell, even pirated vinyl copies recently put out of Moons Milk and Musick Vol 1 and 2 were ridiculously overpriced (and from what I've heard, piss poor quality to boot).

I kind of miss the pre download days, where there was a great network of Coil freaks around the globe who used to buy and trade stuff at fairly reasonable rates.

Also, I've seen mentioned about various blogs that Ian Johnstone, Jhonn Balances final partner is thinking of an affordable re-release programme at some time in the future, as a lasting legacy to Jhonn and Peter, though no details as yet.

If you develop a taste, drop me a line, I'm sure I can fill in a few obscure gaps in your library.
