New Bums - Voices in a Rented Room. The latest Ben Chasny project - this time performing with singer songwriter Donovan Quinn. Lovely acoustic guitar and voice duets, with whispered singing. So more song writing than say Six Organs but many of the tracks have a transcendental quality nevertheless. Lovely.

Orthodox - Conoce Los Caminos. Excellent rarities compilation - this week I've particularly been enjoying the demo version of Geryon's Throne, the first ever studio recording of the group - impressive stuff.

Troum und Yen Pox - Mnemonic Inductions. A month after the penultmate drudion and this is still on heavy rotation. Beautiful.

MC5 - Kick Out the James (Rhino Vinyl reissue). Picked this up at a decent price in town yesterday. Has the original gatefold sleeve with John Sinclair notes and it sounds great, the guitars particularly crisp.

SunnO))) and Ulver - Terrestrials. The vinyl finally arrived during the week. Excellent stuff.

Steve Noble and Stephen O'Malley - St Francis Duo. 4 improvisations recorded live at Cafe Oto.

Psychic TV - Mother Sky/Alien Sky. Contemporary krautrock loosely based on the Can epic.

Bong - Beyond Ancient Space (vinyl).

Duke Ellington - The Real ...

This 3CD compilation of mainly 1930s sides has been on almost all week this week. Terrific stuff, a bridge between Louis Armstrong's Hot Fives/Hot Sevens and swing.

Otherwise:

Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady
The Durutti Column - Demos/Studio disc from "Four Factory Albums" box set
Bauhaus - "Bela Lugosi's Dead" 12"
Bauhaus - "Dark Entries" 7"

Bauhaus - "Terror Couple Kill Colonel" 7"
Bauhaus - "Telegram Sam" 7"
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
The Cure - Faith
The Cure - Pornography

I was on a brief family holiday in Denmark the week before last and had a day to myself record shopping in Copenhagen. Hence this week has been heavy on the Danskrock:

Steppeulvene- Dig

Povl Dissing- 25 Minutter Endnu (compilation CD)

The Young Flowers- Blomsterpistolen

Savage Rose- S/T first album

Savage Rose- Dodens Triumf

Alrune Rod- Alrunes Rod, Hej Du, Alrune Rock

Also-

Throbbing Gristle- A Taste of Gristle

The Butthole Surfers- Rembrandt Pussyhorse

The Butthole Surfers- Locust Abortion Technician

The Fugs- First Album

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac- Greatest Hits

Julian Cope- Rite

Jane Aire and the Belvederes- S/T

And some new / current stuff-

Doug Tuttle- S/T. Pretty groovy semi-psych jams with long spiralling guitar and organ passages. A bit samey but a very pleasing listen.

Delooze- Glass Army. Vaguely Kate Bush-esque singer with bombastic electro-goth epic production. Again, a bit samey on first play but could grow on me.

Amon Dunes- Love. Dramatic singer-songwriter fare on Sacred Bones; a bit like early Bright Eyes. Not too shabby.

Oliver Cherer- Sir Ollife Leigh and Other Ghosts. Guy from Dollboy recording under his own name with help from friends and it grabbed me quicker than most of his Dollboy stuff; a bit Robert Wyatt, a bit Pink Floyd, definitely worth further listens.

A good haul, of those I only have the Alrune Rod set - I listen to Hej Du most but there's good stuff throughout. Dodens Triumf is one I'd like to hear - wasn't it an opera, or based on a opera?

Box set central this week!

Leonard Cohen - Complete Studio Albums
This Heat - Out of Cold Storage
Janis Joplin - Box of Pearls
All of these are great, and giving me a lot of pleasure, but the This Heat box is a revelation. No idea why but I never caught up with This Heat back in the day, despite knowing about them and liking many of their contempories. Its a great box set - really quality digipacks and a lovely booklet too.

Next big thing has been an Arvo Part splurge, after hearing one piece on a mixthing by Father Murphy, who were playing at The Outer Church...
http://www.mixcloud.com/blackimpulse/black-impulse-mix-tape-47-father-murphy/

Arvo Part - Symphony No 4, Tabula Rasa, Alina
Gorgeous, luminous, gentle and soothing. Just lovely.

A bunch of folky stuff:
Philip Henry & Hannah Martin - Mynd
Various - Gather in The Mushrooms
Lisa Knapp - Hidden Seam
All of these have their merits. The first one is pretty right on in, Gather In The Mushrooms is splendidly trippy, and Lisa Knapp has some endearing odd bits - like a folky Kate Bush maybe? Oh, and the lovely...
Kathryn Williams and Neill MacColl

Morgan Delt - S/T
Keep listening to, and enjoying, this.

XTC - Drums and Wires
Still their best album IMO. ROads Girdle the Glode and Complicated Game are utterly epic. Not a bad track on it either - each one a pop/rock gem. Classic.

Cult of Dom Keller - The Second Bardo
Rock!

Carlton Melton - Live in Europe 2012
Rock!

Bandcamp Corner:
Yuri Gagarin - S/T
Heavy spacerock from Sweden? Oh yes. This is bloody great!

Henry Grimes - The Call

Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral

13 & God - S/T
Akron/Family - S/T
Ozric Tentacles - Waterfall Cities, Strangetude, Pungent Efulgent
Adrian Sherwood - Never trust a Hippy
The Late Cord - Lights from the Wheelhouse. This album really stood out in my listening week. One of the blokes from the Earlies and Micah P Hanson, combining to great effect. A reasonable comparison would be the song based ambient work of Eno before he went completely in that direction
Liars - WIXIW
Oneida - Collisions 2 (with Mugstar)
My Bloody Valentine - MBV. Didn't really gel for me
Earthling - Human Dust. Follow up to Radar after they lost their contract - released about 10 years ago i think. The production is the strongest element to this which is impressive for those of a hip/trip hop bent
Holy Sons - I want to live a peaceful life
Om - God is good
Master Musicians of Bukkake - Way out West
Grails - Deep Politics. Seemed to unassuming to me
