Yep, Stone Roses had some great bass lines. Waterfall for instance

Indeed! Yeah, "Fools Gold" is a cracker of a bass part.

The bass line of Julian Cope's version of "i have always been here before" is pretty killer and worth mentioning. It absolutely makes the song.

Also shouts for Queen's "Staying Power" and Rush's "The Enemy Within". Both from unloved (from some) albums in their respective catalogues, but both, IMO, with fab basslines.

There are just too many that I love, so I will just go with "Grip" by The Stranglers Burnell - That's how you play a bass. (Not how I play one though).

Not sure if 3 or 5 notes constitute "a line", but the intro to Van Halens's Running with the Devil" brought the house to it's feet on a very hot Summer's day (Cotton Bowl, Dallas - '78) Obviously everyone had the 8 track tape, well some (those not living in their cars) probably had the LP. ooowww... Cars "Moving in Stereo"? Kinda "thumpy".
