In that case, I shall also nominate the bass line/riff to Iron Maiden's "Running Free" as a Steve Harris classic.

ELO - Shine A Little Love

Driving rhythm, catchy chorus, lush orchestration, trademark vocal harmonies and all underpinned by a killer bass line. Top 5? Probably not, but it's great.

It is indeed great but I thought it was famous for being a dance oriented track that didn't actually feature a bassline?

That's it ,pure bass minimalism . A rare example of a hit too minus a bass .

Come to think of it. There's no bass on the original Thin Lizzy "Whisky in the jar " either .

Interesting subject. Alex Harvey "Faith Healer": no bass except for the last 10 seconds or so.
