What you describe is the Comus poster with extra arse. It was for sale at their gigs in either 1970 or 71. It was printed by either the record company or the agency.

Nice...I wish I had purchased it - though, I believe even then it went for a good deal of money. Wasn't Bowie involved with booking them in 1970?

Yes. He knew them as they were in the same area on London. They gigged at his Arts Lab residency in Beckenham, Memory of a Free Festival etc. He knew Terry Durham as well but Bowie being Bowie he dropped them all when his career moved on.

Which Bowie promo posters do you have? I've seen the US ZIGGY, which isn't the greatest design, and of course, the later ones for each subsequent album...were there any UK material from the Deram and Philips years? Or a UK shop poster for HUNKY DORY during its initial release (I know, in the wake of ZIGGY it did quite well, but not when it was first issued)?

Send me a close foto of how the drawing is printed & executed - and also the remarks put on by the printer. I know some people employed by Philips Art Dept and also the person who sacked them! And I will make more inquiries for you.

Here are the close photos of all the details on the Scott "Engel" Walker - SCOTT 4 poster:

I just can't make out the signature on the credit, but any help at all would be truly appreciated!

Hey guys,

After many years of searching and thinking that, beyond a Polydor 8 x 10 glossy and trade ad for "Love Makes Sweet Music," no promotional/shop materials were ever printed for the '67 - '70 era of Soft Machine, I found and snapped up at auction, this UK Probe shop poster for VOLUME TWO:

A lovely stylized/psychedelic 20" x 28" enlargement of the back-cover band shot with 'SOFT MACHINE' in a nifty graphic font. Thought it might be of interest to some on this forum...

All the best,

Larry DeMellier

Hello, Larry. Some very beautiful posters you have there!

Just in case you might want to know, the typeface on that Soft Machine poster is called Amelia. It was designed by one of my old boss' cohorts in the sixties and is best known as the font used on The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" album, film and promotional material.

No problem! Thanks for sharing some amazing posters.
Amelia is used all over the place on late sixties covers -- like this one by Martin Denny:
