Not much time for music for pleasure this week what with the hacking enquiry, the test match, the Oslo outrage and making a living. I have found some time for marking the latest Black Crowes "hiatus" with a bit of a Robinson brothers binge. The blend of the Stones, Sly Stone, Funkadelic, the Dead, Traffic, The Band and Gram Parsons is, for me at least, pretty irresistible. The six half-live-half-electric Fillmore sets and the "Croweology" album that spawned them are especially fab. Brixton Academy from '08 is probably my favourite all-electric Crowes show.

So ....

Croweology
Live At the Fillmore 12/15/10
Live At the Fillmore 12/12/10
Live At The Fillmore 12/18/10
Brixton Academy 2008/04/09

plus

The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack
ZZ Top - Tejas
Knifeworld - Dear Lord, No Deal E.P
Sly & TFS - Fresh (UK Mix)
Rolling Stones - Forest National, Brussels 17/10/1973
Bush Tetras - Boom In The Night

Mostly Blues, Trash and other things that rock with occasional american folk moments. Also, mostly from Voodoo Rhythm Records. This is pretty much the last 3 weeks, I can't be doing with doing this weekly.

'Records to ruin any party vol 3' - This started it all, fuck yes, perfect compilation.
King Automatic - 'I Walked my Murderous Intentions Home'
Mama Rosin with Hipbone slim and the Kneetremblers - 'Louisiana Sun'
Reverend Beat-Man & the Unbelievers - 'Get on your knees'
Reverend Beat Man - 'Surreal Folk blues Gospel Trash Vol.1'
Bob Log - 'My Shit is perfect'
Juke Joint Pimps - 'Boogie the house down'
Lydia Lunch and Halo of Flies - 'When I'm Loaded'
Lydia Lunch - 'Honeymoon in Red'
Old Sledge - 'Dont let your Deal go down'
EMA - 'Past life martyred saints'
Betty Davis - 'This is it'
Ryan Harvey - 'Ordinary Heroes'

That Wugazi mashup, its awful, lazy, and uninspiring s/ing/ed/. Any ole monkey can grab guitar loops and drop them into hiphop tunes. Would have been much more interesting to go the other way, or maybe, *gasp* mix something new with processed and cutup ingrediants. No, I can't be arsed, too busy on our own gear.

A weekend of music inspired by Issue 2 of the Optical Sounds fanzine (which I wish I'd known about it in time to get the 1st issue - oh well).

Follakzoid - EP. There's a feature on the Chilean underground scene and this was the only record I found easily - you can buy it on MP3 at Boomkat and for under £3 it's a bargain. Two 10 minute krautrock tracks, nice Neu! vibe on the 1st track - should please folk who like Movements (Space Division) or Gnod etc.

Gnod - Ingnodwetrust. Still loving this.

Loop - various tracks from the reissues after reading the piece in Optical Sounds by Simon Price of The Heads. I'd not noticed Sunburst before, hidden away in the extras.

The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette (after reading the article on Captain Sensible's guitar playing)

Also listened to Can (Ege Bayamsi) and some Echo and the Bunnymen and Teardrops.

Where was that if you don't mind me asking? I'd be interested in reading that.
