The newest Barn Owl record on Thrill Jockey is phenomenal. Definite year-end contender.

Just picked up The Conjurer 4-track (full length) by Barn Owl off iTunes for £2.49. Barge-in!

I'll keep my eyes open for Ancestral Star closer to release date.

Thanks both.

They also have a collab LP due with Eternal Tapestry (on Digitalis) under the name Garden Sound, apparently inspired by Parson Sound, which will also be worth looking out for, needless to say.

Needless to say is right - that sounds immense to my mind. Thanks yet again.

Durutti Column - LC

Yay! My favourite DC album (as you might have guessed).

By the way, Vini has been quite ill recently, so lots of good thoughts and get wells to him.

LP’s
DISAPORA – Natacha Atlas
Great to hear this early Natacha Atlas LP from the mid-90’s again. It’s sure to appeal to anyone who liked the Transgobal Underground records of that era seeing as their stamp is pretty much all over it, topped by NA’s incredible tonsils. Duden is almost impossibly beautiful; which might seem an odd think to say when the beats play such a big part, but it is.

ZINC ALLOY – Marc Bolan & T.Rex
Had to play some Bolan on the 30th anniversary of his death and so chose this, along with a few singles. The way the female singers answer Bolan’s “You’re so full of interstellar soul” chorus with shouts of “Bullshit, bullshit” is genius!

COINCIDENCE – Joe Crow
Former Nightingale’s 2007 release sounds at times like little more than a basic demo with guitars and drum, machine but I like it all the same. Features an interesting cover of I Walk The Line and great takes on The Prefects Going Through The Motions and The Nightingales Idiot Strength (which he co-wrote). The latter is particularly good – it was hard to imagine it as a gentle acoustic number but it works brilliantly.

MACHINE GUN ETIQUETTE – The Damned
Hasn’t Plan 9 Channel 7 got a great intro? Kinda stops you in your tracks...

HEAD FIRST – Goldfrapp
The most poppy Goldfrapp LP to my ears. Very enjoyable on early plays though.

GRINDERMAN 2 – Grinderman
Wow! This is sounding great after a couple of listens.

HALLOGALLO – Michael Rother & Friends
A big thank you to AQK for the link to this. It sounds better everytime I hear it!

ALSO...

ROCK’N’ROLL WITH THE MODERN LOVERS – The Modern Lovers

VERY FLASH VERY RUDE (LIVE WINTERLAND 1973) – Mott The Hoople

ROCKET TO RUSSIA – The Ramones

THE SKY ABOVE THE ROOF - Solus 3

GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES – V/A

VOL 2- Wooden Shjips

COLOSSAL YOUTH – Young Marble Giants

great stuff as ever Keith. I still don't like to new 'Frapp un though.

Cheers! Yeah, must admit I ummed and ahhed (sic?!) about buying this one, after not exactly being blown away by the single. But I must admit I've been pleasantly surprised - nothing earth shattering admittedly but found it just plain enjoyable. Even enjoying the single.

It's not Black Cherry admittedly though!

Their stuff's really good. I've only just discovered them (along with other Ochre stuff like Stylus) but I'm really enjoying it all. There's a great compilation of non-album stuff called Archive:02 that's well worth getting hold of (Ochre still do mail order).

Well, had to look it up to confirm it. Heard of it some time back but couldn't think what the track was when I wrote that. Could see how it might work, not sure if they kept the rhythm the same though.
Would love to hear it anyway.

I was wondering about that, because last time I looked there didn't look as if there'd be any activity on the Ochre website in ages. Talbot from that organisation used to pop in here and notify us of new releases. (Just looked and there was a couple of releases in 2009 which I was unaware of)

Not a completist by any stretch of the imagination, but I've got a few things off that label - Applecraft, AMP, Family Of God, and Skyray (which being a Paul Simpson fan is how I came across them in the first place). Always interesting stuff!
