Hmmm.

I agree with all of your comments in his defence, and would even, ahem, add his first solo single (and absolutely nothing else in his own name, mind) to his long list of achievements - a fine, original record with one of the greatest drum entries in rock. He did some good records with Brand X as well, and I quite liked that album he did with Frida Lyngstad though, like most of his output, its appallingly time-locked in the 80's.

BUT...

Prosecution? Every other song he's released in his own name, especially the sub-de Burgh ballads, his appallingly immodest and arrogant nature, and his completely OTT social conscience/"charidee" side which has always rubbed me up the wrong way, especially when he chunters on about "another day for you and me in paradise". You and ME, Phil? Like I've got a Swiss mansion and a house in Monserrat like you?
