There have been moments in my life where i'd have been inclined to agree !

London Calling's a great record IMO, with the similarly sprawling ( but less eclectic ) Exile On Main St, they kinda bookend the 70's for me. With the exception of Cut The Crap ( which i've never heard ) i like all their stuff. The cocaine socialism that crept in after they'd become big in the States got on my pip a bit though.

Not a hippy, just a bit smelly and crusty BTW ;-)

Always thought they were a heap of overrated, posturing, macho toss, personally, but each to their own.

Nowhere near mate cos the Stones from the begiining up until Exile on main street ARE the greatest band of all time..cos lets face it, no Stones, then no 60's garage, no garage, no stooges / MC5 / New York dolls and therefore no Clash...The stones no matter what they represent today redefined rock in attitude, style and substances. It maybe an obvious choice because it's obvious that they are the best band EVER!!....c'mon they're so cool that they've has someoned murdered at the foot of their stage...

"c'mon people simmer down"

i dont think there is anything cool about having someone murdered at altmont, for god's sake, them strollin bones keep on strollin , never rated them, and dont agree that they influence as u state, plenty better bands of the same era the pretty things , the who, for example

Just a bunch of cocks who couldnt even acknowledge on the song writing credits the old bluesmen that Mr Page lifted licks offa...at least the Stones did that...

Having said that they did have the best drummer of all time......

It's hard to accept the truth I know especially when your not a fan, But it's there in spades. Yes they should have done a Lynard Skynard about 1975. But I suppose theres nowt wrong with rocking wrinklies....

As for influence how many sneers have been born out of Jaggers voice?

Dave Aguilar for one, Johnny Thunders, David Johanson even Iggy...It could go on...

there may have been better bands, but not with the influence of the Stones, not a great fan myself but you can see the influence of mick n keef everywhere in rock, even now although it now may 3 or 4th hand, the Stones may have a lot to answer for, but on the whole the +'s still outwiegh the -'s

Ok this will get groans im sure but on pure musicianship and complete mastery of their instruments maybe RUSH. I know I know... But those guys can play like no other in terms of near perfection and yet maintaining a certain rawness. Yes the 80's were dodgy but the stones did Emotional Rescue around then and thats not much.
